What causes fungal toenails?
Fungal toenails (onychomycosis) result from an infection underneath the surface of the nail caused by fungi. The infection causes the nail to become discoloured, and later thickened and brittle.
The infection can spread to other toenails and if left untreated the thickened nails can become difficult to trim and make walking painful when wearing shoes. People are often embarrassed about the way their nails look.
How are fungal toenails treated?
There is a greater chance of success if professional treatment is sought early on. Our Podiatrists are experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of Fungal nails and based on the specific type of fungal nail infection will advise you of your best treatment options including both natural and chemical applications.
