This relatively new treatment uses acoustic waves to help to promote healing in the Plantar Fascia. It is used to reduce pain caused by Plantar Fasciitis and improve mobility in the tissues.
Shock wave therapy is thought to work by producing microtrauma in the Plantar Fascia. This microtrauma initiates a healing response, resulting in new blood vessel formation and increased delivery of nutrients to the affected area.
It can be useful in chronic cases of Plantar Fasciitis, which have not responded to other treatments.
